Dr Daniel Dolfi

Superconducting Devices

Appointments

  • Director, Physics Department Thales Research & Technology-France

  • Principal Investigator, Quantum Sensing Centre

Bio

Graduating from the “Ecole Supérieure d’Optique”, Orsay, (1986), Dr Daniel Dolfi received his PhD degree from University Paris XI Orsay (1993) and the “Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches” in 2008. He joined Thomson-CSF Corporate Research Laboratory (now Thales Research & Technology-France) in 1986 where he is currently Director of the Physics Dept.

Dr Dolfi has about 110 publications in refereed journals, 140 communications in international conferences and 60 registered patents. He received the Thales Innovation Award in 1993, 1996, 2000 and 2016. He is a European Optical Society Fellow, OSA Fellow and IEEE Senior member and received 3AF OPTRO 2024 Award.

In his many years of research, Dr Dolfi has worked on a wide variety of topics. His main areas of technical expertise include optoelectronic processing of high speed signals, active optronic and sensing systems, and quantum technologies and architectures. His work in quantum technologies include positioning/navigation/timing (compact atomic clocks, cold atom based IMUs, non-classical light for fiber sensors and gyros), RF sensing (rare earth doped crystals for microwave signal analysis, Rydberg atoms and SQIF/superconductive based devices) and optronic sensing (nonlinear wavelength conversion, non-classical ghost imaging and coherent detection).

At the Quantum Sensing Centre, Dr Dolfi will be lending his expertise to further development of SQIFs and superconductive based devices for quantum sensing applications.
