Bio
Brian Sia is a Singaporean engineer who has led and owned more than 40 full-reticle wafer runs across silicon photonic, lithium tantalate and advanced packaging platforms. He specialises in large-scale photonic integration and advanced integrated laser platforms, driving applications such as datacentre transmission, GPS-free navigation and RF-photonic radar. His patents have generated SGD 900,000 in IP licensing fees. In 2026, he co-founded Colossus, a datacentre transmission company, where he serves as the chief technology officer.
His career began at Intel Labs, Santa Clara, where he worked on heterogeneous silicon photonics from 2020 to 2021. As head of optical and product engineering at a prominent Singapore-based silicon photonics startup from 2021 to 2022, he architected and shipped its commercial photonic platforms from the ground up. He is also a research partner of Samsung, which had previously confined these partnerships to Korea and the US.
Educated across Singapore, Japan, the UK and the US, Brian joined the School of EEE, NTU, in 2024 as an assistant professor. His research has been covered by news outlets such as MIT News.
In the Quantum Sensing Centre, Prof Sia will be developing integrated photonic and ultra-coherent laser technologies for compact quantum sensors.
