On 21st May 2026, the Quantum Sensing Centre hosted a Tech Talk by Dr Remi Geiger, founder and CEO of the company Kwan-tek (France), titled “Quantum sensors from the lab to the field: focus on cold atoms and diamond technologies”, where Dr Geiger shared his expertise on cold atom inertial sensors as well as the diamond nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centre magnetometer products from Kwan-tek.

In his talk, Dr Geiger presented two technologies of quantum sensors that have moved from the laboratory to the field over the past 20 years: cold atoms and diamond sensors.  He gave an overview of past work in the field of cold atom inertial sensors related to his past research at the Paris Observatory (from 2013-2021) and how academic results have converted into products now operating worldwide.  He then went on to talk about the quantum magnetometers based on NV centres in diamond and particularly the products developed and commercialized by his company Kwan-tek, applied to instrumentation, non-destructive testing and magnetic anomaly detection.

After his talk, Dr Geiger also had further discussions with the QSC team and Cap Vista, leading to fruitful exchange of ideas on how Kwan-tek and QSC can work together in common areas of interest related to diamond NV centre technology.
